Sadly, the Anvil Club of East Dundee closed its doors forever in 2023.

Fortunately, the history of this unique destination has been preserved.

The history of the well known and celebrated Anvil Club of East Dundee is highlighted in this unique slide presentation by author and historian, Phil Aleo.

With the use of photographs and a detailed discussion, this presentation will take individuals on a journey down the Anvil Club’s “Memory Lane”.

This Talk / Slide Presentation will be highlighting the Yeoman City of Childhood that was located on 31 just south of Dundee, as well as the Sears "Kit" Homes of Dundee that were homes ordered out of the Sears Catalog, starting in 1908. There are at least ten in Dundee that will be highlighted.

Meadowdale Raceways, located right here in Carpentersville, was once the “Mecca of Auto Racing” in the Midwest.

This remarkable “Grand Prix” race-course attracted just about every well known and famous racer of the time, including the Unser brothers, Mark Donohue, Harry Heuer, Fred Lorenzen and many more.

This 3.27 mile course only lasted for a little more than 12 years. Yet, its fame and interest continues to fascinate tens of thousands around the globe.

Phil Aleo wrote and published the only book ever produced on this track. His book has been sold in the States, Europe, and even Australia.

He will take you through this track’s history from the very beginning to its end, and show you why this track is still unique to this day, over 50 years after its closing.

Phil Aleo will give a special presentation on Haeger Pottery. He will trace the history of Haeger back to its founder, David H. Haeger.

Haeger starts off with a humble beginning as a small brick manufacturer. Over the course of four generations, Haeger grew into one of the most well-known and largest of the premier pottery manufacturers in the United States.

This presentation celebrates the 145year history of this iconic company that started in Dundee, Illinois in 1871.

Comparable to mining for gold, digging deep into historical records, books more than a century old, newspaper articles from the 1800’s and so on, hidden treasures are continuously found. Philip Aleo’s Presentation, “People Have No Idea” is filled with a variety of small nuggets of history that he has “dug up”.

This Presentation will surprise those in attendance. The information revealed in this slide show is remarkable, entertaining, educational and at times funny! It is doubtful that anyone in attendance will have knowledge of any of these points discussed.

This will be the third time that Phil Aleo has had the privilege of speaking before the members of America’s Boating Club.

America’s Boating Club is an organization dedicated to educating the “boating public” in safety. Many of their members have boated on the Fox River, and Chain-O-Lakes, the Mississippi, the Ilinois as well as Lake Michigan.

They have asked him to be their Keynote Speaker for their District 20 Conference, being held here in Elgin, Illinois. The Skokie Valley Club is hosting this event.

This will be an entertaining as well as educational program that will touch on facets of the river’s influence that few have ever realized.

This huge car show at Raceway Woods is something you don’t want to miss. With hundreds of classic automobiles and race cars , this is a special show displayed right on the original straightaway of the Meadowdale International Raceway, once the Mecca of Auto Racing in the Midwest, from 1958 through 1970.
